Overview
This callisto pin case study details the journey of creating a custom enamel pin based on a dynamic and intricate character design provided by one of our valued clients. The client wanted to convert their visually compelling character illustration into a wearable, high-quality enamel pin while retaining the essence of the artwork. Through precise craftsmanship, material selection, and collaborative feedback, we successfully delivered an enamel pin that exceeded expectations.
Details of Callisto Pin
This callisto pin design features a dynamic character illustration, incorporating vibrant colors, intricate linework, and metallic accents. To ensure a premium finish, gold and silver plating was used for the outlines, with UV printing enhancing finer details like shading and gradients. The final pin showcases exceptional craftsmanship, balancing durability and aesthetic appeal, making it a standout accessory.
Design and Crafting Process
1. Translating the design into artwork
The process was to make artwork for enamel pin production according to the design details. This required breaking down the design into separate parts to identify areas that would use plating, enamel colors, print colors and UV-printed details. After finishing, we sent it to the client for approval. Thre client made some adjustments, and we revised until the client approved this artwork for production.
2. Mold Creation and Sample
Using the approved artwork, a 3.0mm zinc alloy mold was created. This mold captured the intricate line work and defined the pin’s structure. Through a series of processes, a sample was produced with the following characteristics:
- Gold plating and sliver plating for raised metal outlines.
- Hard enamel fills for areas of enamel colors, carefully matched to the color number provided.
- Glitter accents and UV printing to enhance specific elements, such as text and background.
- Screen printing was used for some details such as hair, eyes, etc.
3. Client Feedback on Samples
For the callisto pin enamel sample, this client feedback: ” This sample looks good. But the ear should also be the color of the skin. Looks like it’s the color of the hair”
For the print sample, this client approved the sample but asked us to make some adjustmens in mass production, such as: “the printing of pants needs to be changed back to 4289”, “make the eyebrows the same color as his hair”.
We arranged the mass production according to these suggestions from this client.
4. Packaging and Delivery
To ensure safe delivery, each callisto pin was individually packed in a PVC bag with added bubble wrap for protection.
Post-Production Results and Client Feedback
The client was delighted with the final product, describing the pins as:
“A perfect representation of my artwork! The level of detail, especially in the UV printing and glitter effects, is outstanding. I appreciated the team’s patience in making adjustments and ensuring every detail was flawless.”
This feedback reinforced the importance of collaboration and meticulous attention to detail during the production process.
